How To Use A Urine Bag

Aug 12, 2022

The urine bag is usually used for patients with indwelling catheters. It can collect urine and accurately record the urine volume of the patient within a fixed time. It usually needs to be replaced regularly. The use method of the urine bag mainly includes checking the tightness of the urine bag, closing the switch, disinfection interface and connecting with the urinary catheter.

Follow these steps to use a urine bag:

1.Check the tightness of the urine bag: before use, check whether the package of the urine bag is in good condition, and check whether the urine bag is damaged, air leakage, loose sealing, etc;

2. Close the bottom switch: after inspection, close the switch at the bottom of the urine bag to avoid urine overflow and wet clothes after connecting the urinary catheter;

3. Disinfection interface: after the switch is closed, disinfect the catheter interface and the urine bag interface to prevent the entry of bacteria and lead to retrograde infection of the urinary tract;

4. Connection with urinary catheter: connect the urinary catheter and the urine bag interface tightly, and place the urine bag in a proper position.

When using the urine bag, it should be noted that the urine volume should be calculated according to the scale on the urine bag and recorded. Each catheterization should not exceed 500ml. If the catheterization volume is too large, it is easy to cause excessive bladder relaxation and even bladder bleeding, which is not conducive to health. It is recommended that each catheterization should not exceed 500ml. In addition, the urine bag should be replaced in time to avoid infection and odor.
