How To Use A Syringe Filter
Jul 29, 2022
The volume of fluid remaining in the filter after use is another factor in the selection of filter size. Low residual volume filters are recommended when handling expensive or extremely precious fluids. Reduce residual volume while ensuring complete filtration of the sample.
Follow these steps to use a syringe filter to achieve filtration:
1. Before aspirating the sample, draw about 1 mL of air into the syringe. This minimizes liquid retention.
2. Draw your sample into the syringe followed by 1mL of air. Invert the syringe and wipe the residue off the tip.
3. Use the luer connector to connect the syringe to the syringe filter. Tighten lightly to ensure a secure seal.
4. Filter the solution in the syringe and inject it into the sample bottle. Then, remove the filter, draw air into the syringe, refit the filter, and press the plunger to filter out the residual sample. This enables sample recovery.
NOTE: Use syringes with volumes less than 10 mL with caution. Because it is easy to generate enough pressure to burst the filter. Hamai filters are only used in laboratories and are disposable consumables, and it is not recommended to reuse them.
