Disposable Infant Suction Catheter Operating Instructions
Oct 30, 2026
Detailed Operating Steps
Preoperative Preparation:
Wash hands before operation, confirm that the product packaging is undamaged and within the validity period, tear open the packaging to take out the entire set of equipment. Avoid touching the front end of the suction tube during the entire process to prevent contamination.
Adjust the infant to a supine position, tilt the head to one side, appropriately raise the shoulders and back, keep the airway open, maintain the operating environment temperature at 22~25℃, avoid the infant from getting cold.
Connection and Adjustment:
Connect the tail end of the suction tube with the corresponding negative pressure suction device tightly, confirm that there is no leakage at the interface, adjust the negative pressure value to 13~20 kPa (for premature infants, the pressure should be appropriately reduced), test the negative pressure operation to be stable.
Suction Operation:
Gently insert the suction tube through the infant's mouth or nose into the airway. Do not forcibly advance when encountering resistance during the insertion process. Then, slowly rotate and pull up the suction tube while opening the negative pressure for sputum suction.
The single suction duration should be strictly controlled within 10 seconds to avoid infant hypoxia discomfort.
Postoperative Conclusion:
Immediately discard the entire set of equipment after suctioning, it cannot be reused. Observe the infant's breathing status and complexion changes, record the amount, color and consistency of the aspirated sputum.
⚠️ Key Precautions
✅ Strictly follow the aseptic operation principle. Once-time equipment is prohibited from being reused to avoid cross-infection.
✅ The insertion depth of the suction tube should refer to the distance from the tip of the infant's nose to the earlobe. Do not insert too deep to prevent damage to the airway mucosa.
✅ During the operation, if the infant shows cyanosis of the face or severe choking cough, stop suctioning immediately, place the infant in a lateral position and tap the back. In necessary cases, seek medical attention promptly.
✅ When there are no obvious sputum rales or respiratory distress signs, do not routinely perform suctioning to reduce unnecessary stimulation to the infant's respiratory tract.
